Strawberry Jam Crust Roll-Ups

Of all the social media posts that I’ve done, this method of using up bread crusts has been the most popular and most shared. This recipe uses the same method but takes it to the next level to create roll-ups that are sweet, delicious and easy to make – they also look pretty awesome. Let’s get rolling.

 

TIPS
• Remember to keep the skewers nearby when you roll up the crusts.
• If you do leave the skewers in, be sure to snip the points off with some scissors so that the little peeps don’t accidentally stab anyone with them.

Gluten free
Gluten-free bread works a treat in this recipe.

Dairy free
Use vegetable oil in place of butter.

Vego/vegan
To make these vegan, swap out the butter for vegetable oil or Nuttelex (choose the one with coconut oil for palm oil–free).

Directions

Cut the crust off a slice of bread being sure to keep the crust intact in one continuous strip.

Starting at one end, coil the crust up to look like a large snail, then pierce the crust with a skewer to keep it nice and tight. Repeat with the remaining slices of bread.
Mark as complete

Heat a frying pan over medium–low heat, then add the butter.

Once the butter melts, pop the crusts in with the skewers and flip them over occasionally for around 2 minutes, until they get a nice toasty colour. Drop a teaspoon of your fave jam on top of the crust then turn it over for 1 minute to caramelise and become almost toffee-like in texture. Do this on both sides of each skewer.
Mark as complete

When finished you can either leave the skewers in or take them out.

Allow them to cool before putting them in the lunchbox.
